Move a chart without losing what the stitches mean

StitchMosaic currently opens its own integrity-protected .stitchmosaic files. Photos can also be converted locally, but a picture of a chart is not the same thing as an editable chart file.

Supported now

.stitchmosaic

Preserves full crosses, empty squares, advanced stitches, palette references, print settings and version metadata. The importer validates file size, structure and a SHA-256 integrity value before opening it.

Compatibility review

OXS

OXS is the next candidate, but it is not accepted yet. We need licensed files from multiple tools and exact advanced-stitch comparisons before an importer can safely claim compatibility.

Not accepted

XSD and PAT

These extensions can identify different proprietary or binary formats. StitchMosaic does not guess, reverse-engineer unknown files, or turn a preview image into a pretend editable import.

What to do with another format

  1. Keep the original file and the application that created it.
  2. If that application offers OXS export, save an OXS copy for future compatibility testing.
  3. Export a clear PNG only when you are comfortable remapping it as a new photo-based chart; symbols, backstitches and thread metadata will not be recovered automatically.
  4. After rebuilding or importing a chart, export a .stitchmosaic project file before making major edits.
